Wisconsin Fall Fishing Guide
Wisconsin Fall Fishing
Oh man, I love living in Wisconsin in Fall. I just don’t care much for what comes after fall. Anyway, I’m going to focus on the great fall fishing. I like the cooler temps. It’s September 13th and it’s 80F + right now. Sure that’s a bit warm but technically it’s still summer. With the cooling trend upon us again soon, it will be great to be out on the water.
What do I like most about fishing in Wisconsin in September, October and sometimes November on open water? For me it’s truly the lack of other boats. I can have large stretches of river all to myself. And sometimes the fish are biting! And even when the fish aren’t biting I enjoy seeing large stretches of uncrowded water. This gives me an opportunity to better enjoy God’s creation.
In Fall the Wolf River becomes a great place for me to play. Not many boats and sometimes good quantities of fish make for excellent outings. And if the water levels are low crappies can be found in the main river with the most current. That makes finding them pretty easy. Just slip the current, drift, and cast small jigs with plastics. Or you can verticle jig and see what comes up. Other days we may fish all day and just catch a mixed bag of species. A walleye here and there. A small mouth bass shows up. Oh look a white bass. Then a sucker or even a carp or catfish. You just don’t know come fall what you might haul in.
I enjoy fishing while wearing a coat and not getting hot or cold. If the sun it out and I can shed a layer, I’ll do so. One thing I know for certain is that I’ll be wearing my PFD at all times. Cold water and current are not your friend if you happen to take a whole body drink. Don’t mess with death when it can be so easily avoided. Wear your life jacket! And have fun out there. See you on the water!
