Gearing Up For The 2019 Fishing Season

2019 is here and soon the boat will be on the water. Okay, maybe not really soon.

More often than not I get to fish open water in March on the Fox River in DePere or on the Wolf River near Fremont. Or sometimes both. We’ll need a big thaw fast before that happens. So most likely I’ll be able to take people fishing in April this year. And the bite can be good to great! I really enjoy slipping the river current and vertical jigging for walleyes. Or when the bite is shallow I can drop an anchor, sit in one spot, cast jigs and catch fish. Good times for sure.

Fox River Walleye in Spring

May 4th is the game fish opening day for most lakes in Wisconsin including the bass lake where I  like to take kids fishing. However, here on the Lake Winnebago system the walleye season never closes. We are so blessed. There a limitations in some areas however, but the fishing is open! This is a great time to catch and release the biggest walleye of year! And it’s an easy way to fish. I’ll control the boat while you bounce jigs off the bottom of the river.

If you’d like to take a fishing trip with Captain Kirk, your best chance to get in my boat would be to book for April, May or June. My calendar is nearly full for July and August. Fall is also a good time to get on the water with me. Or if you’d really like a special treat, join me at Pine Sunset Lodge in Dinorwic, Ontario, Canada for an experience you’ll never forget.
